Opera Singer withstood a late challenge to claim victory in the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood.

Jockey Ryan Moore had moved the Aidan O’Brien-trained filly, who is a daughter of Justify, the American Triple Crown winner who retired unbeaten, into a comfortable lead with two furlongs to go.

See The Fire, ridden by Oisin Murphy, closed down the advantage in the latter stages but Opera Singer held on for the win.

French Oaks winner Sparkling Plenty came in third behind the 9-4 victor.

“She’s very classy and Ryan just said she was waiting in front,” O’Brien told ITV Racing.

“To do that in front of a lot of fillies like that, and she fought as well, you’d have to be very impressed with her.”
