Former Northern Ireland, Falkirk and Norwich City goalkeeper Michael McGovern announces his retirement at the age of 40.

Former Northern Ireland and Norwich City goalkeeper Michael McGovern has announced his retirement.

The 40-year-old was released by Hearts in May after completing a one-year contract with the Scottish Premiership side.

McGovern won 32 international caps after making his debut in 2010 and played at the Euro 2016 finals.

He started his career at Celtic in 2001 and his former clubs included Ross County, Falkirk, Hamilton Academicals and a seven-year spell at Norwich.

“New beginnings!! After 23 seasons playing professional football, I have decided to hang up the gloves,” McGovern said on X.

“I’m deeply grateful to all the coaches, team-mates, and fans who have supported me throughout the years.”
