Kyprios cruises to Goodwood Cup victory
Jockey Ryan Moore rides Kyprios to a comfortable victory at the Goodwood Cup as Aidan O’Brien’s six-year-old wins the race for a second time.
Kyprios continued his comeback from a life-threatening leg injury with a comfortable four-length victory in the Goodwood Cup.
The six-year-old, ridden by Ryan Moore, went off as the 8-13 favourite and showed just why with a commanding performance to reclaim the title he first won in 2022.
He joins Persian Punch, Yeats, Big Orange and Stradivarius as a multiple winner of the Goodwood Cup.
Victory in Sussex follows last month’s triumph as he became only the third horse to regain the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
Trainer Aidan O’Brien had revealed Kyprios had recovered from a serious fetlock joint injury which became badly infected and limited him to a couple of outings last year.
Jockey Moore says Kyprios is “very high class”.
“He wouldn’t show you how good he is but he is very good,” Moore told ITV.
“It is fun to ride him because you know he is so much better than all the rest.”
